Honda Soltec starts sales of large CIGS solar cell systems (Source: LONDON (Metal-Pages) on 20-Nov-08)

Honda has been selling solar cells for domestic use since October 2007. With increased demand required by public and industrial facilities, Honda has wholly funded Honda Soltec Co Ltd to start sales of its thin-film solar cells for public and industrial-use throughout Japan at the end of October.  It also plans to expand its production line to strengthen its business foundation.

Solar cells have been developed by using a thin film of copper, indium, gallium and selenium (CIGS) to convert solar energy into electricity and which are environmentally friendly both in their manufacturing process and in use.

To highly expand the use of developed solar cells, Honda has completed the following projects:

  • Honda Cars Automobile Dealership which is using A9kw solar cell system as part of the upgrading and reopening of the Honda Cars.
  • The Solar Bear Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing environmental education to children and fighting global warming, and random selected three kindergartens to receive a Honda Solar Cell system.
  • Installed a 20kw solar cell system on one of large transport ships to provide the abundant solar energy available on long sea journeys.
  • New Motorcycle Production Facility at the Kumamoto Factory with Honda’s largest solar cell system of 116kw powers.
